Cremation

When a contractor recently passed away in Djibouti, regulations prohibited the transfer of the body out of Djibouti without properly embalming and preparing the body for transport (Please note that this does not apply to U.S. Forces in Djibouti). Arrangements were made with the family to have the body cremated in Djibouti. The only organization that cremates remains in Djibouti is one run by the Indians (India). In Indian ritual, a pit is created outside and the body is placed on top of the wood (please note that these pictures do not reflect any human remains). The body is annointed and wood placed on top of the body. From there, the body is formally cremated.
