Camels

Camels are used as sources of milk as well as beasts of burden, but never ridden in Djibouti (except for transporting the sick and the elderly). They are loaded instead with the household possessions: mats and camel skins for bedding, some simple wooden utensils for cooking, goatskins for carrying water, and some traditional arms: a knife, an axe, and sometimes a spear and shield.
