Young Djiboutian

A young Djiboutian boy walks amongst the trash on the outskirts of Djibouti City. If one takes a left outside the gate of Camp Lemonier, they don't have to drive far to see the trash that is dumped on either side of the roads. While an incinerator was donated to the City, the preferred method of disposal at these trash dumps is open burning. Late at night, one doesn't have to look far to see the fires lighting up in the darkness. Unfortunately, this negatively affects the air quality over Camp Lemonier when the winds blow the smoke over the Camp. Fortuantely, the U.S. Government is working with the host nation to correct this situation. Young Djiboutians can often be found scavenging through the trash and rubble looking for treasures to take home.
